The AngelWorks Foundation is a public non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of children by connecting with and assisting families in times of need. Our definition of “times of need” includes the loss of a family member (child or parent), a life-threatening illness or injury that has created an abundance of medical bills, an illness that requires special needs, or another life-changing event that has occurred, causing a serious financial burden.
We learn of families through several means, including referrals from Children’s Hospital, local doctor’s offices, local churches and schools. Throughout the year, we hold many events, including fund-raisers and charity auctions to raise money that is needed for specific families.
Although our efforts continue year-round, at Christmastime we launch a special program to assist families with Christmas gifts and food allowances or gift certificates. Our adopt-a-family program is called “Project Claus”, and is very different than the many programs sponsored throughout Central Ohio in several ways. To begin with, our assistance is typically anonymous. Also, our families do not sign-up for assistance, but must be referred to us. Each family that we help must also meet our requirements and have a special need that can be confirmed. The families that we assist at Christmas are not aware that they are receiving any help until our delivery crew shows up at their home to deliver gifts. It is a wonderful Christmas program that allows many families each year to receive a little hope in a time that they may feel hopeless. We are blessed with the help of many corporate sponsors, local FFA chapters and private donations, to purchase gifts and food gift cards for these special families and to bring a moment of joy to a family that has been suffering.
We began AngelWorks as a simple Christmas Program, never intending to become more. However, eventually it was realized that some of the families needed more help than just presents wrapped in bows at Christmastime. So, while Project Claus is still a favorite (and important) part of AngelWorks, our efforts have grown to give as much support and assistance to families year-round as we can.
Over the years, we have been blessed with meeting some of the most amazing families. Some of those families touch us and remain in our thoughts often - even if they don't know it. Others, like Joe Friend change our lives. - Change our way of viewing the world. -Make us want to be better, to do more, and to see a bigger picture. Joe educated us about Childhood Cancer Statistics. He asked us to help him raise awareness for Children battling cancer. And before he passed, he asked us to continue for him. Raising awareness for childhood cancer has become a main focus for AngelWorks. It is our goal to make September and the Gold Awareness Ribbon as well known as October and the Pink awareness ribbon has become!
