McKenna's AngelWings Fund
There is no greater gift that we can give a parent than to take the burden of thier child's funeral expenses. That is exactly why we created The McKenna Maille AngelWings Fund. It is named in honor of a beautiful little girl that turned 11 years old on May 29, 2014 and went to heaven on May 30, 2014. We were able to help with McKenna's funeral and her family made us realize how impactful it was to have the funeral expenses covered. While this was not something that AngelWorks intended to do, it is the most important program that we have. It is not fun, and it is hard to keep enough funding to help enough families. But, it is needed. And as long as it is needed, we will keep focusing on it.
Release / Birthday Parties
Families battling cancer learn that birthday's take on a bigger meaning. Our kids know that birthday's aren't guaranteed. It is easy to take birthday's for granted. But AngelWorks kids know first hand that they are a big deal and should be celebrated. Unfortunately, many of the kids are in the hospital for thier birthday and too sick to celebrate. Each month AngelWorks helps a family celebrate their child with a birthday party or a release pary. We hope that you can learn from our kids and embrace each year older that you are blessed to live.
Christmastime should be a time of joy and hope. Unfortunately many of the families that we learn of feel hopeless. Medical and pharmaceutical expenses make it impossible for them to have enough funds to cover all of their obligations, much less have anything left for presents. And instead of thinking about fun Christmas activities they are only worrying about where their journey is taking them. That is why we surprise 50 families with an entire Christmas each year. The families that we choose have a child or parent battling a life threatening illness or injury. They do not ask for help and they do not know in advance. Our hope is to bring a little happiness and hope in time when they have little of each.
